# Record a calibration

> Register equipment, record calibration and PM, and return failed equipment to service.

Use this procedure where the equipment register is enabled for your organization. For statuses and due
dates, see [Equipment Register](https://docs.elevatedsignals.ai/invariant/reference/equipment.md).

## Register equipment

1. Go to **Operations → Equipment**.
2. In **Register equipment**, enter the asset code, name, owner and other identity fields.
3. Set **Recorded requirements** for calibration and PM. For **Required**, enter the interval in months.
4. Enter a reason and select **Sign and register**. Re-enter your password.

Only QA Managers and Administrators can register equipment.

## Record a calibration

1. Open the asset.
2. In **Evidence**, upload the calibration certificate or report.
3. In **Record an action**, choose **Accept calibration result**.
4. Enter the date performed and who performed it.
5. Choose **Pass** or **Fail** and select the evidence.
6. Enter a reason and select **Sign and record**. Re-enter your password.

The person who accepts the result must not have uploaded the selected evidence. A **Fail** result takes
the asset out of service.

## Record preventive maintenance

1. Open the asset.
2. In **Record an action**, choose **Record preventive maintenance**.
3. Enter the date performed and who performed it. Select evidence if you have it.
4. Enter a reason and select **Sign and record**.

## Return equipment to service

1. Record a new passing calibration, and PM if it is overdue.
2. As a QA Manager or Administrator, choose **Return to service** in **Record an action**.
3. Enter a reason and select **Sign and record**.

Return to service is refused while calibration or PM is overdue, failed or missing.

## Take equipment out of service

1. In **Record an action**, choose **Take out of service**.
2. Enter a reason and save.

Any role with equipment access can take an asset out of service. This safety action is not signed.
